Last Saturday was a great sunny day for our young skiers! We are really starting to see great progress with those that have been consistently attending and giving it their all
  • FOCUS this week will be on:
    • Skier Code #7 & 8
    • Continued work on independent preparation, movement on hill and the conveyor belt.
REMINDERS:
  • Arrive 30 minutes early to ensure plenty of time to get your pass, prepare your skier, get in gear, use the restroom before start time.
  • Please check TeamSnap Assignments for any available Lodge Parent spots that need your help!
    • Reminder Lodge Parents will get a yellow bib and a radio from the head coach before practice and help out kiddos that may need assistance if coach radios you =)
**SKI LEVEL DEVELOPMENT
Last week was a lot of fun watching some really impressive progress with the skiers!! Congrats to our newest tow ropers!!
  • FOCUS this week will be on: edge angle
    • Skier Code #7 & #8
    • Hockey stops
    • Pole introductions (for those who are ready) – coaches will let you know if this is you!

**RACE CLINICS
Bundle up, racers! Updates below:
Monday Night Race Clinic (USSS focus):
  • Reminder – all Monday Race Clinics will be SL
  • Arrive 15-20 minutes early to ensure plenty of time to get ready and meet coaches.
  • Skiers are to meet coaches at the top of Swede for training.
  • All SL gear is required for Race Clinics, including chin bars and shin guards.
Wednesday Night Race Clinic:
  • Wednesday Night Race Clinics will be either SL or GS, it will be the same as the Sunday Race discipline that week – this is reflected in the TeamSnap Schedule.
    • Please look for this and prepare accordingly each week! This week is SL.
  • Arrive 15-20 minutes early to ensure plenty of time to get ready and meet coaches.
  • Coaches will meet skiers at the base outside the lodge, or at the top of the Swede course.
Race Clinics (Tues/Thurs):
Last week was a great week of training with our race clinic rippers! Coaches are thrilled with the focus and coachability we are seeing some break-throughs! Keep it up kids =)
  • FOCUS this week will be on:
    • Race rules and tactics
    • Hairpins, flush and through gate
    • Tuesday – SLThursday – GS
  • Note discipline in your TeamSnap Schedule – in general: Tues-SL ; Thurs-GS. Subject to change so please be sure to check this weekly.

**MIDDLE SCHOOL RACE TEAM (MSRT):
Last week was an insanely exciting week for our Middle School racers – way to crush two races in style!  This week we travel to one race on Thursday at Boyne Mtn. We just received an update on the timeline for this race – so please check it out below (and in TeamSnap Schedule):
  • Thursday – Race at Boyne Mtn hosted by Boyne City High School.
    • Please note the race start time was bumped up to NOON.
    • As such, the timeline is bumped up a bit:
      • Boyne Mtn Middle School Race – Blue Lakes Bussing
        9am pickup WMS
        9:15am pickup SEAS
        9:20am pickup EMS
        Then onto Boyne Mtn
        RACE TIME BUMPED UP TO NOON!!!
        Chili Bar – see Assignments
        11:30am – meet coaches for warmup and inspection
        12pm – Race Start
        ~2pm – Race End
        More food and Free skiing
        ~3:30pm – Depart Boyne Mtn
        ~5:00pm – Return only to CHS
    • Assignments: Please note we still need a lot of help for the race – please check out the Assignments =)
      • We especially need chaperones for the bus/food setup stuff.
      • Please signup ASAP if you can help folks – particularly if you have not chaperoned a bus yet this year.
      • Reminder we are not able to attend the race without parent chaperones on the bus both ways.

    • Availability: Please be sure to mark your racers Availability in the TeamSnap race event – it’s very important for our chaperones and coaches.
  • All practices Mon/Tues/Wed per TeamSnap Schedule.
  • Friendly reminder to please MARK YOUR RACERS AVAILABILITY for Wednesday and Thursday so our bus chaperones and coaches.
 
**SUNDAY RACES:
After a week off of our GTSC Sunday Races due to Nordica Winter Rally this past Sunday – we are back at it this week!
  • This week will be SL as shown in the Schedule.
  • Please check Assignments under next weeks race in the Sunday Race Schedule to help with our volunteer spots we need to fill –
    • THANK YOU for doing this in advance for the season, folks.
    • We really have a lot of spots still out there and appreciate everyone helping out to make it awesome!
**USSS & FIS Race Teams – MS USSS, HS USSS, Intro to USSS, and FIS
What an awesome weekend of racing and training through all our age levels and multiple events!  We want to congratulate all our Team Michigan racers and qualifiers from Saturdays race at The HIghlands. It was a fiercely competitive field of U18 & older athletes from around the state and WOW! What a showdown!
We also want to congratulate all our Racers who participated Sunday in the CR3 U14 & older USSS Race at the Highlands, and those that raced for our Club side at the Nordica Winter Rally at Nubs Nob – SO MANY GOOD THINGS HAPPENING! We are insanely proud of everyone showing up big time for GTSC!
